worlds oldest manThe native Aymara lives in a straw-roofed, dirt-floor hut, in an isolated hamlet near Lake Titicaca at 13,100 feet.

He has never been farther afield than capital city La Paz, 80 kilometres away, and has never been seriously ill.

Mr Flores Laura’s wife died more than a decade ago. Of their three children only one, Cecilia aged 67, is still alive.

He has 40 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren but most have left his hamlet of Frasquia.

Guinness World Records say the oldest living person verified by original proof of birth is Misao Okawa, a 115-year-old Japanese woman.

Whilst Jeanne Calmest of France achieved the oldest verified age on record at 122 years and 164 days.

The director of Bolivia’s civil registrar, Eugenio Condori, said records showed Flores Laura’s date of birth as July 16, 1890.

He said there is no birth certificate because they did not exist in Bolivia until 1940.

Before that, births were registered with baptism certificates from the nearest Roman Catholic church, authenticated by two witnesses.

Mr Condori said he could not show the media Flores Laura’s baptism certificate because it is a private document.
