Reports reaching us suggest that the police in Lagos State- the commercial capital of Nigeria- on Friday afternoon arrested eight members of an armed robbery gang who attempted to rob the Abule Egba branch of a new generation bank.
The police also recovered sophisticated arms and ammunition, including five AK-47 rifles and assorted charms.
The armed robbers were dislodged by the combined team of the operatives attached to the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) of the Lagos State Police Command and officers and men of Area ‘G’ Command headquarters, Ogba, Lagos, led by the Area Commander in-charge of Area G, Mr. Abdullahi Ishola, an Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP).
According to the same reports, the eight-man armed robbery gang, who must have been acting on insiders’ information, had around 2: 30 pm on Friday, invaded the bank
Information had it that policemen, mostly officers of the Rapid Respond Squad, had engaged the armed robbers before ACP Isola and others stormed the scene and overpowered the armed robbers.
